Google Project Ara: Versand von Entwicklerkits steht bevor

Mit Project Ara begann vor einigen Monaten noch bei Motorola die Arbeit an einem modularen Smartphone. Auch nach dem Verkauf des Smartphone-Herstellers an Lenovo blieb das Project Ara im Hause Google. Bei diesem Modell sollen dann Bestandteile jederzeit nach Belieben ausgewechselt werden können. Und jetzt steht wohl in Kürze der Versand der ersten Entwicklerkits zum Testen an die Entwickler bevor.

Googles Project Ara nimmt langsam Formen an. Und jetzt könnte das modulare Smartphone-System schon bald bei den ersten Entwickler landen. So kann man es jedenfalls aus einer von Eduardo Ruiz auf Google+ veröffentlichten Mail des Project Ara Teams ersehen. Dort werden Entwickler dazu aufgerufen, Ideen und Strategien einzusenden um sich für die Entwicklerkits zu qualifizieren:

Dear Ara Module Developer:

We are now accepting requests for dev boards that we demo’d at the developer conference back in April. This is FPGA hardware that corresponds to the v0.11 release of the MDK. It is designed to help with prototyping and development of modules for the Ara platform, including modules for the current (first) prize challenge that we formally announced at Google I/O.

You may request the developer hardware at http://www.projectara.com/dev-board-form. The first round of applications will be due this Thursday, July 17 2014, 11:59pm Pacific Time. The second round of applications will be due on August 17, 2014.
